Adonis — Black Standard Poodle & Brand Mascot, 83BLVD Pet Fashion House

I have wanted a standard poodle since I was five years old. Five. So when I finally got Adonis as a puppy I thought I was ready. I had dreamed about this moment my whole life. What I was not ready for was what came next.

This man — and I say man because he had the most personality of anyone in my house — kept me up at night like a newborn baby. The terrible twos hit and they hit hard. He was into everything, needed everything, and demanded everything. And I wouldn't change a single second of it.

But let me be honest with you because that's what we do here. There are things I wish somebody had told me before I brought my dream dog home. So if you are thinking about adopting a poodle or any high energy breed — sit down. Let's talk.

01
Do Your Research — For Real Though

I cannot stress this enough. Poodles are not just pretty dogs with cute haircuts. They are highly intelligent, highly energetic, and highly needy in the best way. They need mental stimulation, they need connection, and they absolutely need exercise. I learned this the hard way.

02
Exercise is Non-Negotiable — 30 Minutes Won't Cut It

Okay so let me tell you about me and my bed. We were best friends. My bed and I had a deep, personal understanding — we did not part ways easily. And then Adonis came along and completely disrupted that relationship.

"A 30 minute walk is not going to cut it for a standard poodle. I tried that. Adonis tried to burn the house down anyway."

These dogs need real movement, real activity, and real engagement every single day. Once I committed to actually walking him and giving him the exercise he needed everything changed. His behavior, his mood, his energy in the house — all of it shifted. And honestly? It changed me too. My bed is still my bestie. But Adonis got me up and moving and I didn't even see it coming.

03
Brush Their Teeth — Yes, Really

This was not on my radar and it needs to be on yours. Dental health for poodles is so important and it is one of the most overlooked parts of dog ownership. Get a routine going early. Make it part of your bonding time. Your dog's health depends on it and trust me it is much easier to start when they are young than to try and introduce it later.

04
Grooming is a Lifestyle

You already know we take this seriously over here at 83BLVD. But beyond the fabulous fits, poodle coats require consistent grooming. Regular brushing, professional grooming appointments, and the right products make all the difference. Adonis is our brand mascot and our baby — and keeping him healthy and beautiful is part of how we show up for him.

The Bottom Line

Adopting Adonis was one of the best decisions I have ever made. He is my heart, my muse, and the face of everything we are building at 83BLVD. But he also taught me that loving a dog the right way requires intention, research, and commitment.

Do your research. Exercise your dog for real. Brush those teeth. And show up every single day — because they show up for you without question. That's the 83BLVD way. We don't do anything halfway around here — not our fashion and not our dogs. 🖤🐾
